A deductible is the pre-determined amount you pay during each calendar year before your benefits kick in. For example, if you choose a plan with a $200 deductible, you would pay the first $200 of medical expenses for that year.
A co-pay is the small amount you pay to a medical provider for covered services at the time the services are provided. For example, depending on your choice of plan, your co-pay for prescription drugs could be as little as $15 per prescription. Your Assurant insurance pays the rest.
Co-insurance is the percentage of covered charges paid by your insurance after any fees, co-payments, and deductibles have been satisfied. Co-insurance applies separately to each covered person.
